The station is located on the Pottendorf railway line, which connects residential areas south of Vienna with the city center. The design for the new building was the winning project in a competition held in 2013. The new station was designed as a “reinforced concrete bridge structure” to integrate the railway embankment, which is now elevated, thereby creating a new urban unit for the location. The open space under the crossing structure houses all the facilities of a barrier-free, multimodal transport station.
