BRIEF DESCRIPTION:

The entire rail line between Jenbach and Kundl, Austria, was renovated in Summer, 2014. The centerpiece of the redevelopment was the construction of a new arched bridge over the Inn Valley autobahn. The bridge consisted of 24 elements built on location, which were assembled together in August, 2015. During this time, the autobahn A12 was covered with a protective 1,900m² safety scaffold. The existing steel bridge was demolished and replaced with a new steel arched bridge with pre-stressed reinforced concrete plates. The old train bridge was pushed sideways out of its original position and the new bridge was brought into place via transverse feed, and all of this over the autobahn.
The new construction has a length of 100m and width of 16m. During construction, the train frequency, as well as the automobile traffic on the autobahn, was maintained at a reduced amount. The construction period lasted approximately 10 months. The operation of the new double rail line bridge provided a nominal speed of 160km/h, which was an additional plus for keeping the noise level down to a minimum for both the passengers and the nearby neighborhood.
The subtle rise and decline of the bridge´s arches provides a homogenous, reduced geometry, rolling further into the landscape. The flatness of the Inn Valley framed by the Alps in the distance. The white and anthracite-grey structure provides the bridge with an identity, reflected by the water and contrasted by the distant snow-capped mountains.
